Memories of Bloody Friday

July 19, 2012

Watching a documentary on Belfast’s Bloody Friday 21 July 1972; twenty-three bombs explode in eighty minutes, many with no warning. I was a student trying to walk across town on that terrible day. Each street I turned into seemed to disintegrate in front of me. I watched policemen shovel up body parts. Forty years later and I still can’t clear the images from my memory.

Violence is never the answer.
